Photo moments at the MUBS-FSDU Financial Inclusion Journal Launch
Faculty of Commerce in partnership with the Financial Sector Deepening Uganda held a Financial Inclusion Research Dissemination Workshop and also Launched their Financial Inclusion Journal. The event took place on Thursday May, 23, 2024 at MUBS Main Campus, Nakawa.
MUBS through the Faculty of Commerce has a working collaboration to foster research that is vital for Financial Inclusion. Through this partnership, eight MUBS Master students presented their research work to the sponsors under different themes.
In his opening remarks, the Ag. Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi emphasized that research should be able to help the government reverse bad policies. “We call upon government to take interest in the research that is done by Universities because it is crucial in shaping policy. There is nothing that happens without theory, it is important to use the knowledge.
He further noted that there are so many dissertations that are sitting idle in University Libraries that need to be utilized by government . We are happy that this partnership with Financial Sector Deepening Uganda is creating a platform to make use of the research done by Universities.
Mr. Moses Ogwapus, the Principal Economist at the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development, who represented the Permanent Secretary to the Treasury Mr. Ramathan Ggoobi appreciated the attendants for their commitment to boosting financial inclusion in the country.
He also appreciated MUBS and FSDU for their research publication initiative, and their contribution to financial sector programmes across Uganda. Mr. Joseph Lutwama, the Director of Programs at FSD Uganda said that they provide technical assistance and grants to many institutions.
He added that they work with Institutions in insurance, micro finance, banking and fin-techs to advocate for financial inclusion among their members to create change and transformation.
We have been struggling in the area of research because hiring a foreign firm to carry out research is expensive.
But with local institutions like Universities, we are sure that we can execute research endeavour that is affordable. noted Mr. Lutwama.
The Dean Faculty of Commerce and Projector Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Rachel Mindra Katoroogo said that the main objective was to undertake information for financial based inclusion research, which makes a milestone of this collaboration for the collective effort to enhance financial inclusion world wide.
