‘’About 3 million people in the world are in need and it is the societal right to help each other. As Rotarians you are lucky to have an opportunity to be a blessing to the needy. I salute you because you go against the theory of rational selfishness, and this describes how special Rotary is, said the Ag. Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi.
He was addressing students and Rotarians from different Rotary Clubs during the Boy Child Uplifting program organised by the Rotary Club of Nakawa in partnership with the MUBS Guild at MUBS Main Campus, Nakawa on November 8, 2023.
He emphasized that as we deal with the boy child, there is need to look back to the old times when a child belonged to the community unlike today where individualism is the order of the day ,which is dangerous.
In order to uplift the boy child program, it should start from our homes, share roles, boys must start doing the same house work as girls at home. Boys want to relax a lot which makes them lazy, and gives the girls a chance of over lapping them.
Prof. Muhwezi called upon students to always be prepared for opportunities out there, “if I had the powers I would make sure that every student at the university adds a handson skills course like plumbing, electrics, mechanics on top of their degree”. He encouraged the public to join Rotary saying, the call of humanity should attract everyone’s attention.
The Governor Rotary District 9213 and founder Boy Child Program Uplifting Mr. Kakembo Nsubuga thanked MUBS for hosting the event and pledged his support towards skilling programme at MUBS to help students leave the university with a hands-on skill.
He said the Boy Child Uplifting Program focuses on basic education, literacy, economic and community development to impact boys in the communities they live in. The boy child needs to be supported to reduce on the rate of their school drop outs
He advised students to stay away from homosexuality which has become a big problem to the young boys today, saying it will destroy the rest of their lives.
Mr. Kakembo called upon the young girls to support and uplift the young boys. ‘’ If you support a boy child, you support the future of a girl child because it is the boys who will marry these girls’’’, he added.
