While addressing the Support Staff, under their umbrella, Makerere University Business School Support Staff Association (MUBSSSA), on November 2,2023, the Ag. Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi challenged them to aim higher and challenged themselves to achieve their goals. “Always set targets and challenge yourself to achieve them. We have people who came to MUBS as support staff but now have PhDs. For those still studying, work hard. You need to push yourself towards your life goals.”
He advised the staff to invest some of their money, and control their spending. As welfare let us stay within our means, do not compete with others, compete with yourself, save money and invest. Saving money is not an issue of how much you earn, but having a saving culture.
Whatever money you get, save a certain percentage. If you do this, you will not struggle in life. Prof. Muhwezi also briefed the staff on the various developments taking place in the School among them is the process of the School turning the MUBS Loan’s Scheme into a MUBS SACCO. He said Government does not allow the School to give out loans to staff, because it is not a Financial Institution.
He said for the first time, this Academic year 2023/2024, MUBS has admitted 18,000 students, the highest number ever and encouraged staff to support and serve the students.
Prof. Muhwezi appealed to staff to work hard and serve MUBS. We must, work hard because if we do not, the School will sink and die.
He warned staff against threatening each other. We are all human beings and I do not want anyone to be marginalized, we are all the same and work for the same institution. Threats should stop and work as a team and avoid rumors that will kill the institution. All staff are equally important and are doing a good job.
Prof. Muhwezi called upon the staff to be security cautious and report to police any suspicious individuals. MUBSSSA Chairperson, Mr. Hillary Kimbugwe thanked Management for guiding and supporting the staff, while Mr. Geofrey Emong the Support Staff Council Representative, asked management to review the salary scale, leave days, fellowships, promotions, and working overtime for the support staff
