On January 25, 2024, MUBS, through the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality, and Languages, had the honor of hosting the French Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Xavier Sticker, for the launch of the French Corner at the MUBS Main Library. The establishment of the French Corner was made possible by the FSPI 20-21 grant, amounting to 50,000 Euros, allocated to each of the four public universities in Uganda, including MUBS. This grant aimed to facilitate the procurement of ICT equipment and other scholastic materials to support students and staff in learning French. H. E. Xavier expressed gratitude to MUBS Management for fostering partnerships with various institutions and organizations, enhancing French language learning. H.E pledged support to the multimedia section of the library and assured continued support and collaboration in providing opportunities and mobilities between Uganda and France to promote French language learning. The Acting Principal, Prof. Moses Muhwezi, welcomed the Ambassador on behalf of MUBS, acknowledging the French Embassy’s donation of pedagogical and multimedia resources. These resources will not only support the learning of the French language but also contribute to a global perspective in education and research. Professor Muhwezi mentioned the School’s decision to introduce various languages due to their importance in communication, particularly in the business sector. He announced the upcoming establishment of a language center for students, business people, and others associated with the institution. Meanwhile, the Dean, Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Languages, Assoc. Prof. Atcero Milburga, expressed gratitude to the Ambassador and the Embassy for launching the French Corner. This dedicated space in the school library will house relevant books for various industrial courses at MUBS, including communication and media, international relations, diplomacy, and languages. She emphasized the significance of the Ambassador’s presence, highlighting the strong ties between nations and the importance of linguistic and cultural exchange. Prof. Milburga thanked the Principal, MUBS Council, and MUBS Management for allowing the establishment of the French Corner, underscoring its immense value for students’ language learning and cultural enrichment. She concluded by stating that the French Corner not only enhances language education programs but also fosters cultural appreciation and interconnectedness.
