Mobility is not just moving people, goods and services but also moving an economy. The MUBS Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi represented the School in critical discussions on creating more efficient, accessible, and sustainable mobility solutions at the 6th Smarter Mobility Africa Summit 2024, in South Africa. The summit, which took place between October 2-4, 2024 focused on transparency, leadership, and innovation in African transport systems. Under the theme “Embracing the New Urban Era.”

Prof. Muhwezi is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, ( FCILT) in addition to being a Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) which are aligned to his academic discipline of procurement and logistics. The Smarter Mobility Africa Summit brought together key stakeholders from across the Transport and Mobility Sector.
These included industry leaders, innovators, decision-makers, and visionaries from various fields, all converging to tackle the most pressing challenges of urbanization and mobility in Africa. With a clear focus on “Embracing the New Urban Era Through Smarter Mobility,” the summit presented solutions aimed at driving economic growth, creating sustainable jobs, promoting equality, and reducing the carbon footprint across the continent.

MUBS’ participation in the summit not only cemented its position as a leading provider of Business and Management Education, Research and Training in the Region but also its role in shaping the future of urban mobility across Africa.

The 2024 Smarter Mobility Africa summit comes at a critical moment when cities across the continent are grappling with expanding urban populations, rising congestion, and environmental concerns. Among the issues discussed at the summit was the development and implementation of green fleet solutions. The shift to electric vehicles (EVs) which is gaining momentum globally, and Africa is no exception.
