The Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovations, under the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, started the MUBS Students’ Friday Market for Bachelor of Entrepreneurship students. This market is part of the mentorship and coaching program that replaced the field attachment for entrepreneurship students.

Dr. Christopher Kusemererwa, the Head of the Department explained that the Friday market serves as a platform for Bachelor of Entrepreneurship students to showcase their innovations and creativity and also to receive feedback from customers on how to improve their businesses. Through the Friday market, students gain practical experience in a typical market setting. This program nurtures students to practically start and sustain a business, an exposure they were not able to get before. “Students are assigned both academic and entrepreneurial mentors to support them in starting, marketing, growing, and nurturing their ideas into viable and sustainable businesses.

Dr. Kusemererwa commended the students for choosing the right programme, which is training them to become independent and address the challenge of unemployment among the youth. He encouraged them to remain committed to the program and inspired them with examples of students who have gone through this mentorship and coaching program that have successfully started businesses while at MUBS and have continued with them after graduation.

Ms. Moureen Mukodha, the Coordinator of the Friday Market, commended the students for developing more innovative and creative ideas that have turned into successful businesses, generating more
sales and showcasing their creativity. Students have gained valuable exposure and practical business knowledge, enabling them to become successful entrepreneurs rather than job seekers after graduation. Francis Oneni, a first-year student of Entrepreneurship operating a food business, says he has learned to run a business and manage customers. He is now working towards expanding his business into a restaurant.

Josephine Namaganda, another first-year student of Entrepreneurship who has ventured into making liquid
soap, appreciated the program for she is able to earn money and experience while still at University.
