On August 5, 2025, the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, under the leadership of the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Isa Nsereko, officially welcomed first-year students admitted to the faculty for the 2025/2026 academic year. The event marked the beginning of the students’ academic journey and offered guidance and encouragement from faculty leaders. Assoc. Prof. Nsereko congratulated the students on joining Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and commended them for their achievement. He advised them to be intentional in their choices and take full responsibility for their actions throughout their time at the university. “You have come here to study and earn your degree, that should be your primary focus,” he stated. He further encouraged the students to work hard, strive for excellence, and distinguish themselves academically and personally, noting that “the world does not reward mediocrity.”

Dr. Ismael Nkambwe, Head of the Department of Projects and Small Businesses, echoed similar sentiments. He reminded students that university life offers significant freedom and exposure, which must be managed wisely. “Make the most of your time here by staying focused, using your freedom responsibly, and avoiding distractions,” he advised. “Enjoy your university life, but with discipline. Avoid behaviors that could hinder your academic and personal development.”

Dr. Christopher Kusemererwa, Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovations, highlighted the importance of the program in addressing youth unemployment in Uganda. “The Bachelor of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management was designed to equip you with the mindset and skills to become job creators rather than job seekers,” he explained. He encouraged students to begin formulating business ideas early and aim to graduate with functional enterprises. He also advised them to explore available career opportunities within the faculty and work towards building successful futures.

Dr. Samuel Mayanja, a lecturer in the faculty, emphasized the value of academic excellence as a foundation for future success. “Strive to excel in your studies, good grades not only reflect your effort but also help you realize your full potential,” he said.

Dr. Mayanja challenged students to embrace innovation and creativity, urging them to think critically and develop solutions to societal problems. “Challenge the status quo. Be bold, be original, and use your knowledge to make a meaningful impact in your community,” he concluded.
