September 3-5, 2025, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) successfully conducted a three-day Guild Executive Leadership and Management Training Workshop at Silver Springs Hotel, Bugolobi. The workshop aimed to equip student leaders with skills in ethical leadership, conflict resolution, academic integrity, and financial management.

MUBS Principal, Prof. Moses Muhwezi, urged student leaders to understand their mandate clearly and serve all students with fairness and integrity. He emphasized the importance of humility, authenticity, and emotional intelligence in leadership. “Serve with faithfulness, not favor. Leaders must be genuine, calm, and logical in their actions,” Prof. Muhwezi said. “You are a source of light in times of darkness, avoid conflicts and support one another.”

The Dean of Students, Ms. Juliet Kateega, highlighted that the training boosts the confidence of student leaders and strengthens teamwork. “Leadership thrives on inclusivity and balance. Every leader’s role is vital to effective governance,” she remarked.

Students Council Chair Moses Okwera Mugisha described leadership as a blessing and called on his colleagues to uphold respect, discipline, and academic excellence. “Leadership requires humility and faith. Work hard, respect yourselves and your peers,” he said.

The workshop featured presentations by University experts, including: Prof. Vincent Bagire, Dean Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, who discussed ethics in leadership and the importance of communication and character.

Mr. Freddie Ssemukono, Ag. Director Quality Assurance Directorate explained academic policies and emphasized zero tolerance for examination malpractice.

Mr. George Asiimwe, Chief Internal Auditor, highlighted the importance of financial accountability.

Ms. Grace Namale, Staff Counsellor, trained the Guild leaders on conflict management techniques.

Ms. Annet Nabukeera, who represented the School Bursar, explained budgeting principles and financial discipline.

The workshop underscored MUBS’ commitment to nurturing responsible and visionary student leaders capable of guiding their peers and advancing the institution’s reputation.
