Makerere University Business School (MUBS) recently hosted a transformative guest lecture for Bachelor in Leisure, Events, and Hotel Management students, organized by the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality, and Languages.

The session was led by Ms. Amanda Felly Baisuka (BLHM Class of 2016), whose career journey from earning her bachelor’s degree at MUBS to completing an MBA and a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing (CIM-UK), exemplifies strategic career growth and continuous learning.

Titled “Navigating Career Opportunities in the Modern Hospitality Industry,” Baisuka shared practical advice on personal branding, proactive opportunity creation, networking, and career development, emphasizing that a degree is just a foundation while a strong personal brand opens doors.

Your degree is your foundation, but your personal brand is what opens doors. Be known for your expertise, work ethic, and the unique value you bring to an organization,” –

Ms. Amanda Felly Baisuka

Students engaged in a hands-on SWOT analysis, reflecting on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and learned the importance of initiative, skill-building, and maintaining a professional reputation. Baisuka also highlighted inspiring alumni success stories, including a classmate now leading a major television station and another excelling in customer care for Nescafé in Malaysia. On behalf of the students, Namukasa Caroline expressed gratitude, noting the lecture connected theory with real-world practice. The session reinforced the importance of continuous learning, mentorship, and alumni engagement in shaping the next generation of hospitality and events leaders at MUBS.
