Makerere University Business School (MUBS) reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing disciplined, innovative, and well-rounded graduates during the Freshers’ Ball, held at the main campus on Friday, November 7, 2025. The ceremony officially welcomed first-year students and marked the induction of Asingwize Edwin Mugabe, a first-year student of Business Computing as the new Chief Fresher.

The event was presided over by Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi, alongside Acting Deputy Principal Assoc. Prof. Rachel Mindra Katoroogo, and attended by top management, staff, and students.

In his address, Prof. Muhwezi emphasized integrity, focus, and the responsible use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance learning outcomes. “As you begin your academic journey, maintain discipline and stay focused on your scholarly objectives. Use artificial intelligence and other tools wisely to support your learning,” he advised.

He encouraged students to seek guidance whenever challenges arise and reminded them that the university has structures in place to provide support. “We are committed to supporting all students. Please reach out to our offices whenever you need assistance,” he added.

“Many of you are not only strong academically but also gifted in music, drama, and other creative pursuits. Embrace these opportunities to develop your full potential,”

Prof. Muhwezi also highlighted the importance of self-respect, noting that students’ conduct reflects on the reputation of MUBS. “Carry yourselves with dignity as MUBS students. This is how the public will continue to trust and respect our institution,” he said.

Beyond academics, he encouraged students to nurture their creative talents alongside intellectual development. “Many of you are not only strong academically but also gifted in music, drama, and other creative pursuits. Embrace these opportunities to develop your full potential,” he noted.

Prof. Muhwezi further announced MUBS’ collaboration with Makerere University Senate, the Government, and the World Bank to establish a hands-on training centre equipped with production lines, musical instruments, and media studios.

The centre is designed to equip students with practical skills and prepare them for the workforce. “Our goal is to create a space where theory meets practice, so that graduates are fully prepared for the job market,” he explained.

Acting Deputy Principal Assoc. Prof. Rachel Mindra Katoroogo urged students to manage their time effectively, remain focused, track their progress, engage actively with lecturers, and take responsibility for their learning. She particularly encouraged female students to remain confident, disciplined, and maintain a professional appearance.

MUBS Guild President Rose Nabwire congratulated the freshers and reminded them to embrace their University experience responsibly, balancing both academic and extracurricular opportunities.
