During the weekly online webinar organised by the Entrepreneurship Innovation and Incubation Centre on February 22, 2024, under the topic “Beyond limit; the power of personal initiative in your business.’’, Assoc. Prof. Isa Nsereko defined personal initiative as the way of taking the first step to address a situation and doing some things without being told.
Assoc. Prof. Nsereko further explained the importance of personal initiative in business which include; Self-starting attitude, that is proactively acting without waiting for instructions. It drives productivity and increased performance.
It also brings innovative actions through process improvements, product enhancement and competitive advantages. Adaptability and resilience; change is constant, it helps individuals adapt quickly, find alternatives paths, learn new skills, and remain resilient, client relationships, collaborate, seek feedback, and seek ways to maximize the value.
He also gave the examples of taking initiatives like; working extra hours to complete on time, seeking additional business knowledge, seeking for more solutions even when one fails among others.
Assoc. Prof. Nsereko further explained to the participants why people do not initiate including fears and past failures.
