The Prime Minister of Bunyoro- Kitara Kingdom, Owek Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi was received at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) by the Ag. Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi on Friday April 12, 2024.
The Prime Minister appreciated MUBS for leading the way of Business education in Uganda and invited the School to open up a branch in Bunyoro region.
The Prime Minister and MUBS Ag. Principal Prof. Muhwezi planted a Mvule tree at MUBS as a commitment to environmental sustainability.
Prof. Muhwezi appreciated the Prime Minister for the visit and briefed him on the various programs and projects at MUBS. He informed the Prime Minister on how MUBS supports culture through, cultural galas and exhibitions organized in the School annually.
He welcomed the Prime Minister’s call to open up a branch in Bunyoro.
At the same time, the Prime Minister gifted the Ag. Principal with an official portrait of Dr Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, the King of Bunyoro – Kitara Kingdom.

The Prime Minister also had an engagement with Lecturers from Bunyoro who teach at MUBS and other Universities and members of Bunyoro Kitara Students Associations from various institutions. Among the issues discussed was the development of Bunyoro-Kitara.
Prof. Donald Rugira Kugonza, the key speaker made a presentation on crops that can give high yields and incomes from one acre. The discussion was led by Dr. Lenard Nkalubo and the session was moderated by Dr. Fred Muhumuza, the Director MUBS Economics Forum.
The recommended crops with great yields in one acre piece of land included; Hass avocado, Mangoes, Cashew nuts, Macadamia, Coffee, Tea, Cocoa, Potatoes, Cassava, Bananas, Sugar cane, Palm Oil, Millet, Beans and Sunflower. In the same session, a number of Banyoro were recognized and awarded for their tremendous work towards rebuilding Bunyoro in different categories. Those recognized included the Prime Minister of Uganda Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja.
Also Some academia received awards in recognition for their contribution towards the social economic development of Bunyoro-Kitara. They included; Prof. Vincent Bagire, the Dean Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Grace Bantebya, a distinguished Social Anthropologist and Professor of Gender and Women Studies, Dr.Cindy Magara, a Film Director and Lecturer of film studies and literature at Makerere University and Dr. Charles Koojo,a Physical Planning Expert and a CEO of Urban Research and Training Consultancy.
The Prime Minister’s awards were organized by the Patron of the Banyoro community at Makerere University Business School Mr. Athanasius Mbona Buyondo a Lecturer in the Department of Management, Applied Statistics and Science.

Lecturers who teach at MUBS and other Universities from Bunyoro who met with the Prime Minister
The Prime Minister briefed them about the various Kingdom programs and activities and invited them to attend and support the commemoration of the 30 Coronation Anniversary of Dr Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara.
The Lecturers appreciated the work being done by the Kingdom in preserving culture, promoting education and improving agriculture and household incomes through the desired model household program which is currently promoting coffee and banana growing.
The Premier was accompanied by Mr Atuha Moses, the Clerk to Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Parliament and Mr Byaruhanga Robert, the kingdom’s Oil and Gas Manager.
