“It is because of God that we are here today celebrating the 20 years of full catholic presence in MUBS. It is imperative and important to say, thank you God, because if we do not thank you, it demeans your glory”, said MUBS Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi. He made the remarks during the thanksgiving mass and celebration of 20 years of full St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Community presence in MUBS, the celebration of the 67th, birthday of the Chaplain Msgr. Dr. Lawrence Ssemusu and his 44th year of priesthood. The events took place on October 4, 2024, at MUBS Main Campus, Nakawa.

St. Charles Lwanga Catholic MUBS Community is the Catholic Chaplaincy for Makerere University Business School. It started in 1998 following a merger of the National College of Business Studies, Nakawa and the Faculty of Commerce of Makerere University.

Prof. Muhwezi thanked God for the work that the Chaplain has done in the School. “We are grateful for the work that God has done through St. Charles Lwanga MUBS Catholic Community and using Msgr. Dr. Lawrence Ssemusu the chaplain as a vessel”. He urged the congregation to be more appreciative to God regardless of the assets and academic qualification they have acquired, underscoring that it is God who enables us to do everything.

He also called for forgiveness among the MUBS community, “Be quick to forgive each other whenever misunderstandings arise because forgiveness builds cohesion among us”, he advised

The Principal prayed to God to grant Msgr. Ssemusu good health so that he can continue extending his services to the community. He suggested that the gospel should be tailored to the current dynamics and technology to be able to reach all the youth. He also informed the congregation that he has a conviction that God has a plan to bless MUBS.

The main celebrant was Msgr. John W Katende of the Foyer, Namugongo who appreciated God for giving MUBS a Chaplain who has done the job very well and also thanked the community for their cooperation with the chaplaincy and urged them to continuing growing a more professional and spiritual community St. Charles Lwanga Catholic community has grown alongside the Institutional changes that have taken place at its ground home, Nakawa Campus.

In 1984 it was placed under Makerere University and became its campus ceasing to be an independent Institution. This was however short-lived; the Education Ministry upgraded the campus into a fully fledged National College of Business Studies (NCBS) which had mandate for business education in the country. In 1998, under a Ministerial Instrument there was a merger between the Faculty of Commerce of Makerere University and NCBS to form the current Makerere University  Business School.
