The MUBASA Festival at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) is an annual sports and team-building event for academic staff, fostering unity through games like football, volleyball, and sack races, culminating in celebrations.
The MUBASA Festival last year begun with the flagging off of the MUBASA members for a marathon and they were flagged off by the MUBS Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi and the Ag. Deputy Principal Assoc. Prof. Rachel Mindra Katoroogo.
This event took place on December 11, 2025 at MUBS Main Campus Nakawa and was also attended by all MUBS Regional Campuses; Arua, Mbale, Jinja and Mbarara.
The Faculty of Procurement and Logistics Management emerged the overall winners of the MUBASA festival after scooping the highest number of medals in most of the games.
While addressing Staff, the Principal Prof Moses Muhwezi appreciated the Chairperson of MUBASA and his team for organizing such a wonderful event. “I hope that the aim of holding the festival which is mainly to ensure that there is team work, networking and having a good feeling have been achieved.”
Prof. Muhwezi thanked every Staff, Deans of Faculties, who sponsored the Festival, and appreciated all participants for their contribution made towards this event and wished them happy Celebrations.
The Chairperson MUBASA Dr. Wilson Tusiime appreciated the School Management for the supporting the event and also appreciated all Deans and Heads of Departments that sponsored their different teams at the festival.
He also appreciated the Regional Campus Directors for mobilizing their Staff to make it to the festival and encouraged them to continue with that mutual effort.
On December 10, 2025, the Faculty of Commerce held a research and team-building workshop at Hotel 360, Ndejje. The Ag. Deputy Principal and former Faculty Dean, Assoc. Prof. Rachel Mindra Katoroogo, noted that her experience as Dean of the Faculty adequately prepared her for her current role. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Faculty of Commerce, explaining that the position helped her learn how to work with diverse people and equipped her with the skills needed for her responsibilities as Deputy Principal.
She encouraged staff to maintain a strong spirit of teamwork, emphasizing the importance of bonding, supporting one another, and enjoying moments together as a team.
Assoc. Prof. Katoroogo urged staff to support the MUBS vision by embracing change and engaging in initiatives that contribute to institutional growth. She called upon staff to be drivers of change, implement assigned responsibilities in good faith, and remain open to feedback.
In her opening remarks, the Acting Dean of the Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Irene Nalukenge, urged staff to gain maximum value from the workshop, particularly the sessions on using Artificial Intelligence in research, financial management, and retirement planning. She also encouraged participants to take time to relax, socialize, and enjoy the team-building experience.
The facilitator, Mr. Ethan Mussolin, CEO of Success Africa, trained staff on financial management and retirement planning, focusing on financial wellness and retirement readiness. He emphasized the importance of mindset in financial decision-making, advising staff to understand their financial position, remain open to learning, build assets rather than liabilities, eliminate bad debt, reinvest profits, and take calculated risks.
He further cautioned against unhealthy competition and stressed the importance of emotional intelligence in managing finances. He encouraged staff to build relationships with like-minded and successful individuals, invest in their personal brand, health, social networks, and spiritual well-being, noting that wealth begins in the mind before it reaches the pocket.
