On Monday April 15, 2024, the Faculty of Tourism Hospitality and Languages received Prof. Cynthia EID, the President of the International Federation of Teachers of French as part of the Erasmus + Mobility from France to Uganda at MUBS.
Prof. Cynthia’s visit to MUBS aimed to provide training to staff teaching French from Kyambogo University, Makerere University, and Makerere University Business School on topics such as flipped classroom methodologies, multilingualism, and inter culturalism.
Participants expressed enthusiasm about how multilingualism and culture play vital roles in fostering a global community.
According to Assoc. Prof. Milburga Atcero, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality, and Languages, Prof. Eid’s visit also serves as preparation for the 11th Congress of French Language Teachers of Africa and the Indian Ocean, scheduled to be held at MUBS from July 22 to 26, 2024,
under the theme “Sustainable
Development through the French Language in the Digital Era”. This congress, the first of its kind to be hosted in Uganda at MUBS Main Campus Nakawa, will bring together French language educators from East Africa and around the world.

Prof. Moses Muhwezi, MUBS Ag. Principal, welcomed Prof. Eid to MUBS and expressed gratitude for her collaboration in promoting the French language. He highlighted MUBS’ commitment to language promotion through various events, including the Annual MUBS Language Festival, and encouraged continued efforts to ensure widespread language awareness.
Before the training session at MUBS, Prof. Cynthia Eid participated in the Francophonie Day Celebrations on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Shree Sahajanand School. During the event, she emphasized the importance of Government and Schools prioritizing the French language.

Attendees, including French language teachers, urged the Government to support French language learning and encouraged School Administrators to embrace the language, emphasizing its role in creating employment opportunities for students.
During the training session at MUBS, Prof. Eid underscored the significance of plurilingualism and multiculturalism for shaping a shared global future.
