On February 06, 2024, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) signed an MOU with the Financial Sector Deeping Uganda (FSDU), a partnership created to undertake research with actionable insights to facilitate and promote Financial Inclusion and overall Financial sector development in Uganda’s Financial markets. The MoU implementation is coordinated by the dean Faculty of Commerce in partnership with Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. Dr. Anthea Paelo, the Financial Sector Development / Consumer Protection / Competition Economist/ Gender Change make who represented FSDU at the signing of the MoU said, she enjoyed the interaction with the selected students and supervisors MUBS.
She said the students have researched on various topics relating to financial inclusion with a specific goal of deriving practical, action based recommendations for the financial sector, they are 10 themes that were considered, that is; consumer protection, Government subsidies, the role of technology and the impact of monetary policy. The case studies were from across Uganda, including Pallisa, Bukedea, Kabarole and Katwe.

Dr. Paelo indicated that the insights from this research effort will be shared with the industry in the coming months through a stakeholders workshop and FSDU Journal and publication. The Dean Faculty of Commerce Assoc. Prof. Rachel Mindra Katoroogo extended appreciation to FSDU for the provided grants to 10 MUBS students to do this research to provide supervision support. Assoc. Prof. Mindra also noted the significant milestones the students have attained in the research journey. A lot of learning and skills have been obtained . She further explained MUBS Commitment to continue working with the industry to provide solutions and recommendations for policy intervention through such partnerships.
