Participants at the Young African Leaders Initiative Hand over Ceremony

Our very own , Mr. Don Patrick Bugingo , an Assistant Lecturer in the Business Languages department was recently elected President of Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Alumni network in Uganda.

Don is an alumnus of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders 2024 on the Business and Entrepreneurship track from Rutgers University

The Young African Leaders Initiative(YALI) consists of 14 Countries of Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The outgoing president, Ms. Gorreti Byomire in a colorful handover ceremony highlighted goals achieved that included ; Established a structured, formalized alumni network with leadership, Hosted Mandela Day celebrations as a Signature Event, Supported Pre-Departure Orientations and Debriefs, Conducted alumni hangouts and Organized the Central Region Knowledge Sharing Event in partnership with an AEIF grantee.

We congratulate Ms. Gorreti Byomire for completing her term of office and wish Mr. Don Patrick Bugingo a fruitful tenure.

Makerere University Business School through the MUBS Leadership Centre signed a five year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with YALI Uganda on April 16, 2024. The aim of this initiative is to empower young African leaders through various programs : in-person and online training in business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public management, along with professional development and networking opportunities.
