Ms. Peace Tinka, Deputy Director of the Disability Center, addressed the new students

On August 6, 2025, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) held the third day of its orientation program at the Main Campus in Nakawa, with a focus on inclusion, student welfare, entrepreneurship, health, and campus security. Ms. Peace Tinka, Deputy Director of the Disability Center, addressed the new students with a message of empowerment and inclusion. “You will be the best in business and management once you graduate from MUBS,” she remarked, inspiring students to pursue their academic and career goals with confidence.

Ms. Tinka shared that the Disability Center supports more than 80 students with various disabilities by offering reasonable accommodations to help them complete their studies successfully. She emphasized the Center’s commitment, alongside MUBS management, to breaking down barriers that limit student participation in academic and extracurricular activities. She appealed to the wider student community to show empathy toward peers with special needs and to support an inclusive learning environment. Students facing personal or academic challenges were encouraged to report to the Disability Center for appropriate support and assistance.

Highlighting the entrepreneurial opportunities available at MUBS, Ms. Remmie Kirunda, Manager of Incubation at the MUBS Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Incubation Centre (EIIC), urged students to engage with the center. She explained that business ideas go through various stages of development and that the incubation program provides valuable mentorship and access to professional networks to help students grow their ventures. The School Doctor, Dr. Paul Okror, stressed the importance of maintaining good health, acquiring practical skills, and giving back to the community. He advised students to manage their time wisely, promptly report any illnesses for proper medical attention, and prepare to interact with diverse personalities while navigating university life. “Not everyone you meet will be easy to deal with, but learning to work with different people is part of personal growth.” he said, Addressing campus security, Chief Security Officer, Denis Musinguzi, reassured students of the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment. He encouraged students to report any suspicious activity and advised them to protect their personal belongings and be cautious when seeking help, especially from unfamiliar individuals. “Fraudsters often target new students,” he warned. “Stay alert and protect yourselves.
