September 18, 2025 — Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Guild President Nabwire Rose was among a host of young leaders who graced the National Mentorship Day Awards ceremony held at State House, Entebbe on Thursday. The event, presided over by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, recognized distinguished elders for their exemplary contributions to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. The awards aim to inspire the country’s youth by highlighting model citizens whose lives and service continue to shape Uganda’s development journey. In his address, President Museveni emphasized the importance of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government’s four core principles: Patriotism, Pan- Africanism, Socio-economic Transformation, and Democracy. He underscored the value of mentorship in nation-building and encouraged the youth to learn from the experiences of their elders. “You, the young people, should never believe that everything old must go away that would be a very big mistake.
At the same time, the elders must not insist on keeping everything the same. Some things must change in order to remain rational and relevant,” said President Museveni. Mr. Odrek Rwabwogo, Patron of the National Mentorship Day Awards and Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development, also spoke at the ceremony. He explained that the program mainly focuses on awarding elders who have had an indelible mark on the development of Uganda.
He emphasized intergenerational collaboration as a cornerstone for lasting progress. We must combine efforts across generations and create space for such discussions,” Rwabwogo stated.
The meeting gave the young leaders an opportunity to draw inspiration from President Museveni’s wisdom, guidance and revolutionary ideas.” The ceremony brought together student leaders, youth organizations, and national stakeholders, all unified under a the National Mentorship Day Awards ceremony held at State House, Entebbe oshared goal: to inspire the next generation of leaders through the wisdom and legacy of those who came before.
