September 19, 2025- Makerere University Business School (MUBS) marked a significant milestone in its leadership and governance as the outgoing Council officially handed over to the incoming 7th Council in a ceremony held at Fairway Hotel, Kampala.

The event, characterized by joy and celebration, was presided over by Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Sports. In her remarks, Dr. Turyagyenda applauded MUBS for its continued contribution to Uganda’s education sector, particularly through the production of competent and skilled graduates. She urged the Incoming Council to play an active role in helping the country realize Vision 2040, and emphasized the importance of holistic and values-based education. “In order to equip the young generation, we must teach them to think critically. That is why we have shifted to the competence-based learning approach, because the world demands productivity, not just certification,” she noted. Prof. Moses Muhwezi expressed deep appreciation to the Outgoing Council, led by Eng. Isaac Mubarak Ngobya, for their visionary and principled leadership. He acknowledged the support of the MUBS Management and various Council committees, and extended special thanks to H.E. Janet Museveni, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, for her trust in his leadership.

Prof. Muhwezi expressed his gratitude to former MUBS Principal, Prof. Waswa Balunywa, for his unwavering mentorship and support throughout his professional journey at MUBS.

Outgoing Council Chairperson Eng. Ngobya commended previous Council Members for laying a strong foundation and encouraged the Incoming Council to build on past successes to further uplift the Institution. He also appreciated MUBS Management for their cooperation and applauded the Dean of Students’ Office for maintaining student’s discipline.

Incoming Council Chairperson Ms. Olive Lumonya Birungi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead a well-established and reputable Institution. “As the Incoming Council, we are committed to strengthening the MUBS brand and reputation while focusing on the School’s strategic plan and core pillars. We aim to build stronger stakeholder relationships,” she said.

Incoming Vice Chairperson Mr. James Mwesigwa also praised the outgoing Council for its wisdom, integrity, and dedication to preserving the MUBS legacy.

Dr. Francis Yosa, the School Secretary and Secretary to Council, thanked the Outgoing Council for their stewardship, expressing confidence in the new leadership. “We look forward to the leadership of the new Council with optimism, as we continue to realize the mission and vision of MUBS,” he said.

The handover underscored MUBS’s continued dedication to strong leadership and national progress under the new 7th Council.
