Makerere University Business School (MUBS) received a donation of 100 tree seedlings from the Firm Farm Foundation, delivered through YMCA Guild President H.E. Mubiru Farouk. The handover ceremony took place at the MUBS Main Campus in Nakawa on August 4, 2025, as part of a joint effort to promote environmental conservation among institutions of higher learning. The Firm Farm Foundation, a community-based organization dedicated to environmental sustainability and reforestation, has embarked on a nationwide campaign to plant 10,000 trees in Ugandan learning institutions by the end of 2025. This initiative aligns with the growing commitment among youth leaders and academic institutions to take an active role in combating climate change, increasing green cover, and fostering sustainability. The seedlings will be planted and nurtured across the Nakawa campus, with the support of MUBS student environmental clubs and the Estates Department, as part of the university’s green campus strategy. The tree planting aims to improve air quality, enhance campus beautification, and build long-term climate resilience. “Together we grow, together we protect our earth,” said Mubiru Farouk, emphasizing the importance of collective action in safeguarding the environment for future generations. “Engaging youth as environmental champions is key to sustainable change.”
“This donation is not just about planting trees; it’s about growing a culture of responsibility and sustainability within our student community,
Receiving the donation, MUBS Guild President H.E. Rose Nabwire expressed gratitude and reaffirmed the student leadership’s commitment to environmental stewardship. “This donation is not just about planting trees; it is about growing a culture of responsibility and sustainability within our student community,” she said.
A representative from the Firm Farm Foundation noted that their partnership with institutions like MUBS reflects a broader movement encouraging youth-led climate action across Uganda. The Foundation looks forward to expanding these collaborations and involving more young people in environmental advocacy. MUBS encourages all students and staff to participate actively in the tree-planting exercise and take part in fostering a greener, healthier campus environment. The MUBS Guild also plans to document the progress and share updates through its communication channels to inspire continued engagement.
