Makerere University Business School (MUBS), through its Human Resource Directorate, on September 17, 2025 organised a Leadership and Governance Induction workshop for Regional Campus Administrators at Protea Hotel, Kololo. The session was designed to reinforce administrative capacity, promote institutional alignment, and elevate service delivery across all MUBS campuses.

In his opening remarks, the Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi outlined the School’s strategic priorities for the coming year. He emphasized MUBS’ preparation for rising student enrollment, highlighting ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure, streamline operations, and ensure all Regional Campuses remain fully functional and responsive to stakeholder needs.

Prof. Muhwezi commended the Human Resource Directorate for its proactive role in supporting these institutional goals and emphasized the critical responsibility of campus administrators as frontline representatives of MUBS. “You are the face of MUBS in your regions,” he stated. “The standards we uphold at the Main Campus must be consistently reflected across all locations. Our students, many of whom are navigating new academic and personal journeys rely on your guidance, support, and timely attention.”

He further stressed the non-negotiable importance of financial accountability, professionalism, and prompt communication. “Accountability for resources is essential not only for transparency but for securing future funding,” he noted. “Maintain clear records, plan diligently, and aim to respond to student inquiries within 24 to 48 hours.” he said

“You are the face of MUBS in your regions. What we do at Main Campus should be mirrored across all campuses. Our students, many of whom are still finding their path, need your guidance, support, and attention”

Calling for unity across the institution, Prof. Muhwezi urged both teaching and non-teaching staff to foster collaboration and avoid divisions. “We are all MUBS staff, Avoid segregation and personal conflicts especially at regional campuses. Today’s colleague could be tomorrow’s supervisor or your greatest ally. Let’s prioritize peace, mutual respect, and teamwork.”

He also encouraged continuous professional development, urging administrators to embrace lifelong learning and demonstrate integrity and maturity in every interaction.

Ms. Christine Nanyombi Mubiru, the Chief Human Resources, reinforced the alignment of administrative practices with MUBS’s core values: communication, collaboration, compliance, and integrity. “Each of you plays a pivotal role in advancing our mission and shaping positive experiences for both staff and students,” she affirmed. She emphasized that the training was instrumental in building a shared understanding of institutional policies, roles, and expectations.

Dr. Francis Yosa, School Secretary, led a session on governance, leadership, and policy implementation. He highlighted administrators’ vital contributions to strategic planning, meeting coordination, and report writing, while highlighting the need for strict confidentiality when handling sensitive information.

Dr. Yosa also encouraged regional campuses to explore short courses as a viable avenue for revenue generation and deeper community engagement.

The induction reaffirmed MUBS’ firm commitment to excellence by calling on regional campuses to:

  1. Align fully with Main Campus administrative standards;
  2. Uphold rigorous financial accountability and record-keeping;

iii. Prioritize student support and timely communication;

  1. Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and collaborative spirit, and
  2. Invest in continuous learning for personal and institutional growth.

Through this initiative, MUBS will continue to build a cohesive, capable, and value-driven leadership network across its expanding footprint.
