Bachelor of Business Statistics students from Makerere University Business School (MUBS) proudly represented their Institution on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Africa Statistics Day celebrations hosted by Uganda Christian University (UCC).

Competing against top students from across Uganda, the MUBS team secured the second runner-up position at the Students’ Symposium, demonstrating exceptional analytical skills and practical application of statistical knowledge.

The annual event celebrates the vital role of statistics in national development and evidence-based decision-making, providing students with an opportunity to apply classroom theory to real-world challenges while engaging with industry experts.

Assoc. Prof. Susan Watundu, Head of the Department of Applied Statistics and Management Science, emphasized the importance of such experiences: “Our students gain hands-on experience interpreting data that can inform business, government, and community decisions. It’s an invaluable opportunity to connect theory with practice.”

With support from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) and the Uganda Statistical Society (USS) through the Business Statistics Students Association, students fully engaged in this transformative experience. Additionally, MUBS received copies of the National Census Reports, which will be housed in the School library, serving as a key resource for research, policy analysis, and community development projects. ”

The achievement of our students reflects their dedication and hard work,” said Assoc. Prof. Watundu, noting that it underscores the critical role of statistics in addressing societal challenges and strengthens MUBS’ reputation for producing skilled professionals for industry, government, and the community.
