August 18, 2025 — Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has disciplined seventy-five students found guilty of examination malpractice during Semester Two of the 2024/2025 academic year.
The decision was announced following the 89th Academic Board meeting held on August 4, as communicated by the Office of the School Registrar. The students were implicated in various forms of malpractice, including possession of unauthorized materials, forgery of examination permits, and disrupting exams.
The majority of cases, sixty-six (66) students were caught with unauthorized items such as mobile phones, smart watches, spy eye glasses, summarized notes, and unauthorized slips. Among these, four (4) students received cautions, sixty-three,(63) had their exams cancelled, and three,(3) were suspended indefinitely.
Other infractions and penalties included one student cautioned for possession of unauthorized material and exam disruption, one student suspended for a semester for destroying exam scripts, and another suspended for a year for disrupting exams and providing false information. Additionally, three students were suspended for one to two years for collusion and destruction of evidence, three were suspended indefinitely for copying and aiding cheating, one student suspended for two semesters for forgery of permits, and two students cautioned for communicating during exams.
The School Registrar Dr. Eldred Kyomuhangi-Manyindo, emphasized that these strict measures are necessary to uphold the integrity of MUBS’ academic standards and serve as a deterrent against future malpractice. “The purpose is to strictly remind students to adhere to the University’s examination rules. Any student contravening them will face disciplinary action,” the Registrar’s statement read.
