Students of Tour de Vert 2025 cycle through MUBS Nakawa campus, promoting sustainability, healthy living, and climate action
On Saturday, November 8, 2025, students of the Makerere University Business School (MUBS) French Club took part in the inaugural Tour de Vert 2025, a student-led cycling initiative promoting sustainable living, eco-friendly mobility, and healthy lifestyles. Aptly called “Cycling for Clean Air,” the event inspired participants to take small actions that contribute to a greener future.
The initiative aligned with the #COP30 global climate conference in Belém, Brazil, under the theme “every climate action starts with showing up.” It aimed to raise awareness about climate change and encourage students to adopt eco-friendly habits. The ride began at 8:00 AM from the MUBS Main Gate, with warm-up exercises, group cycling, and safety supervision. After completing the route through campus and surrounding hostels, participants gathered in the ADB Theatre for speeches, reflections, and interactive sessions.
The event was supported by Campus France, the French Embassy in Uganda, and the Uganda-France Alumni Association, with operational support from EBee Uganda, the Uganda Cycling Association, the MUBS Health Centre, and MUBS Security and Administration.
Reflecting on the initiative, the French Club President Gerald Birimuye Kairu said: “Tour de Vert is more than a cycling event , it shows that climate action begins with small steps. We are proud that students led this initiative and proved that real change is possible when we act together.”
Assoc. Prof. Milburga Atcero, Dean Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and languages added:, “Tour de Vert highlights the power of student-led initiatives in promoting sustainability. It also reinforces MUBS’ commitment to developing graduates who are environmentally conscious and socially responsible.”
