Faculty Staff and Students under the Department of Leisure, Events, and Hospitality Management, Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality, and Languages at the training

August 19, 2025- Students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Leisure, Events, and Hospitality at MUBS Main Campus received career guidance on selecting course options under the Department of Leisure, Events, and Hospitality Management, Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality, and Languages.

Speaking at the session, Prof. Samson Otengei, Head of Department, encouraged students to broaden their thinking and carefully consider their choices. “You can succeed in many things, but it’s important to excel in what you choose. Choose a path that aligns with your passion, and become known for it,” he said.

Prof. Otengei advised students not to delay decision-making and to avoid regrets. “Opportunities pass quickly if you are undecided. You can not do everything, start with what you understand, commit to it, and define your goals clearly. Have role models to guide your path,” he added.

Dr. Michelle Kiconco emphasized understanding the opportunities each course option offers. She urged students to align their choices with their passions and interests, and to remain determined to stand out in whatever they do.

Dr. Tinka Mukama reassured students that there is no wrong option, as long as it’s chosen with understanding. He encouraged them to explore the opportunities available, understand how the facilities work, and be open to both entrepreneurship and employment in the public or private sectors.

Mr. Didas highlighted the importance of seeking guidance and conducting research. “This course offers many opportunities, but you need to be aware and informed to take full advantage,” he advised.

Mr. John Asingire, presenting on the Catering and Hotel Management option, emphasized that while one may not master everything in the field, identifying a niche can lead to success.

“Start with what you have and grow from there. Choose wisely, make decisions you will not regret,” he said.

Finally, Ms. Sophia Nasaka, Assistant Lecturer in the Department, appealed to students to be proactive in seeking information and guidance before making decisions about their academic paths.
