A meeting was held on June 11, 2024 at MUBS Main Campus Nakawa to discuss the possibilities of introducing co-operatives Education in Uganda. The meeting agreed that MUBS should spearhead cooperative education in Uganda.
A four man’s delegation from the Uganda Co-operative Alliance led by CPA Asiimwe Ivan, the General Secretary engaged the Ag. Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi, with a proposal to introduce co-operatives education in the country in a move to foster economic empowerment and sustainable development.
Prof. Muhwezi emphasized that MUBS must increasingly become relevant in meeting the nation’s human resource needs.
Prof. Muhwezi also suggested that MUBS can start with a Diploma and Degree in cooperatives and later on they introduce a Master’s Degree and PhD in co-operatives. We need to provide the  services at home so that Ugandans no longer travel abroad for education in cooperatives.
CPA Asiimwe noted that it is very important to have the academia dive deeper in research and teaching cooperatives knowledge in the country. CPA Asiimwe noted that; We also need to develop capacity in human resource to serve in the co-operatives in Uganda. The importance of co-operatives in
driving economic growth and improving  livelihoods can fully be achieved by teaching co-operative principles and practices which will equip students with an understanding of how co-operatives function.
Prof. Muhwezi appreciated the idea and advised that MUBS should be able to provide all the necessary content and research in the business realm and pledged to support the implementation of co-operatives education in the School.
