October 30, 2025, The Uganda Management Institute (UMI), in collaboration with Makerere University Business School (MUBS), has launched a two-day Paper Development Workshop in Management Studies for advanced PhD students, early-career researchers, and junior faculty from Universities across East Africa. The workshop was held at the UMI Campus in Kampala from 30th to 31st October 2025.

“Such workshops are critical in equipping scholars with the skills to understand and navigate a complex and changing world,” said Prof. James L. Nkata, Director General of UMI, during his opening remarks. He emphasized the need to build the right human capacity to strengthen research and innovation across the region. Supported by the European Group for Organisational Studies (EGOS) and its journals, Organization Studies and Organization Theory, the workshop provides participants with mentorship from internationally recognized scholars, connecting regional researchers to global academic networks.

The program features interactive sessions, peer-review exercises, and mentoring opportunities, helping participants refine research designs, improve manuscript structure, and prepare papers for high-impact publications.

“This workshop provides a valuable platform for emerging scholars to receive hands-on guidance and constructive feedback, which is crucial for producing research that contributes to both academia and practice,” noted one of the facilitators.

Participants are expected to gain practical skills, confidence, and regional collaboration networks, strengthening the quality of management studies research in East Africa.

“By bringing together scholars from across the region, we aim to create a community of researchers who can publish impactful studies and address real-world challenges,” added Prof. Nkata.

The two-day workshop reflects UMI and MUBS’ commitment to fostering evidence-based scholarship, enhancing research capacity, and building a new generation of skilled scholars in management studies.
